I saw this and immediately began to wonder about your favorite films that are essential about the experience of cinema.
Below are a couple of mine. Post yours here so I can watch them all and co-opt your opinions as my own.
The Muppet Movie
Sullivan's Travels
Rear Window
And The Ship Sails On

I definitely would have said Sullivan's Travels if you hadn't said it first. Off the top of my head:
- State and Main
- Matinee
- Sunset Blvd
- Barton Fink
- Gosford Park
SOB. Great film from... the 80s? You get to see Julie Andrews' boobies. Really!
The Purple Rose of Cairo
Cinema Paradiso
Do I dare admit: The Last Action Hero? Yes, I dare.
I can think of lots of movies about moviemaking; not nearly as many about moviegoing...
How about the Scream franchise? Those are movies about watching movies. (And we LOVE them.)
I am also reminded of that scene in The Evil Dead, where you see the film projector comes on and the "blood runs down the screen."
