Did everyone know a new Saw movie is coming out?

"I don't think any other producer in Los Angeles would make a movie whose main character is a serial killer with terminal cancer." - Mark Burg, producer of all 6 Saw movies.

Does anyone know what this quote is about? "Serial killer dying of cancer" is one of those things that feels like an obvious cliche to me, but I can't cite evidence off the top of my head.

I think it's pretty straight forward. Jigsaw is dying of cancer, and the producer is stating how edgy the movie is for this plot decision.

I can't think off hand of a serial killer with cancer, but *certainly* finding a melodramatic way to humanize a serial killer is a total cliche right?

Saw seems to be one of the horror series you guys don't show much interest in. Am I just not paying attention?

Nope. That's accurate.

Well, wait. It's inaccurate that there's only one. We are also snide about Hostel and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I think that, assuming there exists an "us" with a unified single canon, serial horror (serieses?) is pretty low-ranked in general. Freddy, Jason, Halloween, Hellraiser...they're all sort of boring. Scream is the only big exception I can think of (and it's really only Kristin who defends it). Oh, and Final Destination, for some reason, but FD is not horror, is it?

No, FD is more like...I have no idea what it's like. But scary is not what it's like.

Yes, I love the Scream series. I even like Halloween one in a for-old-times-sake kind of way. Is the Alien series horror?

How do we know what counts as serialized horror? What counts as a horror franchise?
